Treasured memories of our past
TO FORGET ONES ANCESTORS IS TO BE A BROOK WITHOUT A SOURCE, A TREE WITHOUT A ROOT.(Chinese proverb)
Take yourself back to when farmers would cart grain to the local jetty.
After unloading they would come to the local waterhole and quench their thirst after tethering their horses at the stables at the side of the pub.
The hotel was originally opened in 1876 and named "Weigarten to Coobowie Hotel "unti l1883 when it became the Oaklands Hotel.
When our father was born in 1933 it was owned by John Colyn Grant and when he left Coobowie in 1948 it was owned by Sydney Wilfred Marshall.
Dad would like to believe his father never frequented this establishment but 1 of his uncles appeared to live there!!!!
Dad had a sly grin on his face when telling us this story.
Please take care when retrieving and do not push too far into hidey holeas may get lost.
Because of age of structure at GZ please take extra care so as not to cause damage.
At times this area is a high muggle area so take care.
Please bring your own writing implement as only log book in cache.
