TO FORGET ONES ANCESTORS IS TO A BROOK WITHOUT A SOURCE ,A TREE WITHOUT A ROOT. (Chinese proverb) Where would you find a 5 yr old lad if not at school ? Why behind a bush in his front yard at home ! Did he get caught? He's not telling us he said. Our father attended the local Coobowie Rural school in 1939 and 1940. His teacher was nick named "Pop" Hewton Out lying farmers children would walk or ride their horse to school Yrs 1 and 2 used chalk to write with and the older kids would use ink. The school only had 1 teacher when dad was there so he taught all grades in 1 classroom. At recess they would play marbles and hop scotch and he couldn't wait to go home and go fishing with his pop. We remember the late 1960's when this school was still in operation and today it is part of the caravan park and used as Accomodation . Log book only so please bring writing implement.
