Treasured memories of our past.
TO FORGET ONES ANCESTORS IS TO BE A BROOK WITHOUT A SOURCE, A TREE WITHOUT A ROOT.(Chinese proverb) In the 1920's our grandfather built the house located adjacent to this cache on the cnr of the street when he married our grandmother. In those days houses were built of stone which was found in abundance locally. Our Dad's first job at the age of 14 was to work with his Uncle Claude Tape learning the building trade. Claude was the original founder of TAPE builders in Coobowie and currently 3 generations have run the business. On weekends to earn extra money [PENNY A BRICK}, Dad would sit in the back yard,near where you can see the old brick shed . A small timber frame in his hands in which he would make a mixture of sand and shell grit with cement which would form a brick If you look down between the brick shed and the side fence to the house you will see the type of window[on driveway side] the bricks would form a frame around the window and then be cemented over. When Dad left school he followed the TAPE tradition and became a builder himself. The old trees along the boundary were planted by our granfather and Dad talks of what wonderful trees they were to climb as a child This house is still in our family today. Dad says this town was a wonderful place to grow up in and he returns when ever he is able to what he calls home. Our roots are certainly in this town of Coobowie Thank you for coming on this journey with ELIZABETH earthlight and GWEN the x-trailers.
