Geocache Description:

Quercus engelmannii, the Engelmann Oak or Pasadena Oak, is a species of oak in the white oak section Quercus sect.  Quercus, native to Southern California and northwestern Baja California, Mexico.

We had seen images of this old oak tree before so when we came upon it while hiking out here we decided to mark the spot.  This cache is near the north edge of the Boulder Loop trail.

The cache was placed so it can be easily accessed from the trail.  Please place it back as you found it -- maybe even better.  When replacing please make sure it is at least out of sight.

We got here by parking in the dirt lot at the top of La Honda Drive.  Then follow the paved Ranch House Road to the second Boulder Loop trail head.  Follow the trail all the way to the north edge.  You'll spot the likely cache location about the same time you spot the old oak.  Grab a trail map at the parking lot info kiosk if you need one.

Bring water, something to write with, and in case of an emergency a cell phone; you'll be about 2 miles from the car coming or going.  Be sure to also bring info on the other caches along the way and in the area so you can make it a more productive hike.  And check out Frank's Daley Ranch Roundup Challenge.

Congrats to Chase Clan 2.3 for FTF!
