The present Soldiers’ Barracks stand on the site of the wooden building that was occupied by soldiers of New Brunswick’s 104th Regiment of Foot. Many of the soldiers left here in February 1813 to begin their long march to Canada. The original wooden building was replaced by the present stone one in 1827. There is a plaque on the Queen Street side of the barracks that commemorates the 104th Regiment of Foot.
