A continuation of the Hamilton Ring Road Project following on from the opening from Wairere Drive to Fifth Ave (5 Crossrods). This section will link through to Ruakura Road, eventually to continue on to Cobham Drive in the South East of the city. This road has been a long time coming, and as local resident that is often travelling both North & South I look forward to the opening of each stage of this project.
Looking south from the existing East Street, the new East Coast Main Trunk Rail overbridge has been constructed, which includes an 8m high bridge over the existing rail tracks and up to 8m of filling with rock and sand to construct the new road. This section of the Wairere Drive extension, from Fifth Avenue to Ruakura Road, is scheduled to be completed and opened to the public by the end of 2012.
The two photos were taken looking South from a position slightly north of what is currently East Street. Where East Street formally led into Ruakura and on North it now terminates with the Overbridge and only alows foot and cyclists to pass under the Overbridge.
Please think carefully about access, Convienent parking is available nearby from a number of positions, however please take extreme care.
Choose your time well as EYES may well be on you. Close by, there are likely to be muggles cycling and of the vehicular kind.
