This cache was placed for Cachepalooza 7. Cache placement has been approved by Martin Morse, park service specialist.

Obey all speed limits. Do not block gates. All wheels off the pavement. Do not cross the railroad tracks except at the main park road or the US 1 bridge.

Derrick Thomas was a NFL linebacker and defensive end for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989 to 1999. He was born in Miami, Florida and was the 4th overall draft pick in 1989 after playing college football at Alabama.

In college, Thomas won the Butkus Award (best college linebacker) in 1988 after setting a NCAA record with 27 sacks. In the NFL, he won Defensive Rookie of the Year, was elected to the Pro Bowl 9 times (1989-1997), and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009. The Chiefs have retired his jersey number (58). He is considered one of the greatest pass rushers in NFL history.

Thomas holds an NFL single game record for sacks. On November 11, 1990, he sacked Seattle Seahawks quarterback Dave Krieg 7 times, but the Seahawks prevailed 17-16.
