The engine house on Frank's shaft of Giew Mine is a well known landmark beside the road near Cripplesease.
Giew mine was worked at various times from 1838 to 1922. Franks' shaft was started in around 1861 and is 1464 feet deep. The engine house was built in 1874 to house a 50 inch pumping engine.
The cache is hidden not far from the engine house, on the compressor and winding house floor which was built when the mine was last worked in the early part of the 20th Century.
