Geocache Description:

For a long walk Park inside the first Wilderness Center entrance gate at (N40° 40.32’ W81° 38.40’) stay outside the inner gates if you will linger past 5 p.m. Follow the Wilderness Walk to start. Stay on trails until you reach the spring and read the interpretive sign. For a shorter walk park at (N40° 40.70’ W81° 38.33’).

This is a great family outing cache. If you select the long walk, you will enjoy a great hike on well-maintained trails through old growth forest, young forest, riparian forest, and prairie restorations. The best old growth forest is visible if you take the Wilderness Walk starting west behind the Interpretive Building. Bring your binoculars for some birding and your wildflower book for spring and summer wildflowers. The forests are great all year. The prairies bloom spectacularly in late July through August.

The cache is located in a camouflage painted PVC tube with a Wilderness Center Decal on the outside. Once you reach the spring, check your GPS it will lead you past an old house foundation. The cache is concealed nearby. It is NOT hidden in the foundation rock, please don’t dislodge stones in this historic spot. The starting contents are some Wilderness Center logo pins, some acrylic Wilderness Center logo ornaments and some “Cat’s Meow’s” of the Interpretive Building before its renovation.
