Gateway to the Everglades
" Everglades Holiday Park "
This 29-acre park, long nicknamed the "Gateway to the Everglades," is located at the western end of Griffin Road, off U.S. 27. The park offers airboat rides, boat ramps, fishing, wildlife viewing, food concessions, boat rentals, alligator shows and a campground.
A Little History: The property that now makes up Everglades Holiday Park was deeded to Broward County in 1964 by Davie Farm Lands, with the stipulation that the sole use of the land be for “public recreation purposes.”
If you grew up in the South Florida area, you may have visited this spot during a school field trip. The science and environmental education company "Science Eye" operates its “Lab Shack” at the edge of the park. Since 1985, Science Eye has taught more than half a million students and teachers about the Everglades.
This cache should be a fairly easy grab for experienced cachers. Take advantage of the dry season to get this one; otherwise, your feet may get wet. Have fun, and take the time to check this place out. It has quite a bit to offer.
