Eastern End of the Ridge top of Key Cache, you can take Ridgetop trail or the Vintage Scorpion Hill trail that remains nothing more than a Deer Trail. RidgeTop starts at the West end of the upper dam and can be accessed through the Mill Creek park past the upper dam, aswell as Scorpion hill walk on the way.
The 50/500 was placed 12-31-2008 and was placed as my 50th cache placement while 500 finds had been logged. At the time the coords I took from GZ to key cache were within feet out of guidelines and upon another visit was discovered that placement was the opposite. It took yet another visit to finalize this one and now its ready.
The neat part about these trails and caches here is that the trails are so infrequently used that there is nothing more than a deer trail in spots. This area before the lake was built was Ukiahs Primary Recreation area. The trails are old, the signs have either been restored or left original to best represent the area it was years go.
1/2 way up the Ridge Top Trail is an old sign engulfed by a tree. Its just neat knowing these trails have been here so long and is now neglected for lake trails and Lowgap, was once where people of Ukiah would come to enjoy. The RidgeTop trail was restored by Ukiah Valley Trail group, while the Scorpion Hill walk remains significantly less traveled.
