There once was a cache here. Just like many of the things this place has been it is now gone. We have decided to bring back the history of this area and hope that someday the park will reopen.
The area is posted on the map as the Enos Pond County Park now. But, it was originally the Woodmansie Estate and was eventually sold and turned into the Forked River Game Farm in 1912. It was then sold to the state sometime around the 1930's. The state created some dikes and impoundments that were built by CCC workers in hopes that they would hold back fairly fresh water on the marsh, creating not only ponds, but different plant habitat for the purpose of improving waterfowl habitats. It is possible that the raised features were nesting islands that would have been surrounded by water when the water control structures were still being maintained. There were a total of 13 buildings on the site including an 18th century home, sheds and bird pens that have since been cleared. The area is now known as the Edwin Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. It is being restored thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds. As you drive down the road you will come across the Ocean Residential Community Home which was designed to meet the needs of the growing number of youth committed to the Juvenile Justice commission with serious substance abuse issues. The park area is closed to the public at this time but you can still come and see the old gate house that stands at the roadside. We found it to be an interesting little area and thought other may too.
The container is a small camo'd container that will hold small swag or coins.
