The “Dungarvon Whooper” (pronounced “hooper”) is a ghost story about the alleged murder along the Dungarvon River in central New Brunswick in the late 19th century. The story revolves around a young Irish cook by the name of Ryan.
Ryan moved to a lumber camp somewhere along or very near the Dungarvon River, bringing all his possessions with him, including a money belt. Nobody knew where he got the money, but the young cook made no secret that there was plenty of it.
