The Hobbit Traditional Cache

Team Monkeyboy: Unfortunately, beginning this spring, this park will no longer be free to visit for non-members. Dawes will be charging admission for visitors for the first time in it's 90+ years of operation; $10 for adults and $5 for children age 5 to 15 (children younger than 5 years old will still be free). We do not want to add an "Access or Parking Fee" attribute and ask geocachers to pay to find our caches, so as a result we are forced to archive this cache. Thank you to all who have visited this cache, and to Dawes Arboretum for allowing us to place geocaches in what was once our favorite location to visit.

Hidden with permission from Dawes Arboretum.




One of my favorite locations... come and explore the area, and you'll soon discover how this cache got it's name. This may not be Middle-earth, but the area certainly evokes the images my mind creates while submerged in the pages of a J. R. R. Tolkien novel.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

There's plenty of room for small trade items and trackables. Please be gentle while retrieving and replacing the cache... removing the container from it's hiding spot correctly is a bit of a puzzle unto itself, but it can easily be done with patience!

Many thanks to the proprietors for allowing the placement of this cache, and to the other area cachers for the wonderful finds offered in this beautiful park.

Trailhead coordinates are for a small unmarked trail that leads directly to ground zero, but there are numerous other trails and areas nearby to explore (see the park map link below).

Dawes Arboretum is open from 7am until dusk. Visitor Center Hours are:
Monday - Saturday 8am - 5pm
Sundays and holidays     10am - 5pm
