St. Peter's Chapel in the hamlet of Owlswick is a brick and flint building which was built in 1866. In the early days the chapel served as a village school as well as a place of worship, and a few traces of the school remain to this day, including a bell that is still rung for services. A notable feature of the chapel is its embroidered kneelers which were made by members of the congregation. They follow the same colour scheme, but have a different design. They are all related in some way to the village and the chapel.
In 2016 as part of the chapel’s 150th anniversary, a disabled access path was created and a composting toilet installed. The chapel is believed to be the smallest place of worship in the Oxford Diocese. Services are held once a month on a Sunday.
The cache is located outside of the church grounds.
Geocaching Etiquette. geocaching.com states under 'Help Center' in Paragraph 1.7: 'We like to keep things fun for everyone, so we have a few rules we encourage everyone to follow. Sign both the logbook and log your find online to get your smiley. Geocache owners love reading about your experience'. There are more rules, but this is the first one. This cache owner requests that if on the rare occasion geocachers are unable to sign, an explanation is given in their log. A photo of the cache, if possible should then be sent through the messaging system.
