Geocache Description:


Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta) is a sun-loving tree and often the first tree species to grow following a forest fire. Needles on Lodgepole Pine need sunlight. Trees in the open, like this one, will have branches down to the base, while trees that grow in clusters will only have branches at the top – like those between you and the road. Walking in a forest of Lodgepoles is like walking in a forest of flag poles.

Le pin tordu latifolié (Pinus contorta) est une essence de lumière. Cet arbre est souvent le premier à apparaître après un incendie de forêt. Ses aiguilles ont besoin de la lumière du soleil. Les arbres qui, comme celui-ci, croissent dans des endroits dégagés sont pourvus de branches jusqu’au sol, alors que ceux qui poussent serrés les uns contre les autres sont dénudés jusqu’à la cime – comme ceux qui se trouvent entre vous et la route. Les peuplements de pins tordus latifoliés ressemblent parfois à des champs de mâts porte-drapeaux.
