Geocache Description:


White Spruce (Picea glauca) is a shade-loving tree that begins its life under a canopy of mature trees. In the absence of fire spruce will eventually become the dominate species in Jasper’s montane forest. The thick branches of White Spruce provide shelter for nests, protection from predators, and the cones provide food for birds and squirrels.

L’épinette blanche (Picea glauca) est une essence d’ombre qui commence sa vie sous une voûte d’arbres matures. En l’absence du feu, l’épinette finira par devenir l’arbre dominant de la forêt montagnarde du parc Jasper. Ses branches épaisses peuvent servir à abriter des nids et offrent une protection contre les prédateurs. Les oiseaux et les écureuils se nourrissent de ses cônes.
