“Klopdisselboom is an Afrikaans word used to describe a feeling that things are going very well. If someone asks you “How is it going?” you could reply “Everything is klopdisselboom.”

A “disselboom” is actually a type of shaft on an “ossewa” (ox cart) that was used by the “Voortrekkers” during the Great Trek. The “Voortrekkers” were emigrants during the 1830s and 1840s that left the British Cape Colony and moved into the interior of South Africa. The terrains they crossed were very rough and the wagons (specifically the wagon shafts) broke down quite often. When oxen or horses harnessed to the wagon or carriage walk or trot at a steady pace, their harnasses/yokes make a rhythmic knocking (“klop”) sound on the “disselboom”. When they heard that sound, they knew that good progress was being made (because the wagons were not broken) as they were moving further and further inland.

May you have a “klopdisselboom” caching day!
