Geocache Description:

This cache was placed for Cachepalooza 7. Cache placement has been approved by Martin Morse, park service specialist.

Obey all speed limits. Do not block gates. All wheels off the pavement. Do not cross the railroad tracks except at the main park road or the US 1 bridge.

Leonard Ray "Len" Dawson was a quarterback in the NFL and AFL from 1957 to 1975.

After playing college football at Purdue, Dawson was drafted with the 5th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a backup for 3 years with the Steelers and 2 years with the Cleveland Browns before joining the Dallas Texans expansion team in the AFL. After a year, the Texas moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs. During his 14 years with the Chiefs, he led the team to 3 AFL Titles and a victory in Super Bowl IV where he also was the game's MVP. He was selected for 6 AFL All-Star Games and 1 Pro Bowl (after the AFL merged with the NFL). Dawson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987, his jersey number (16) has been retired by the Chiefs, and he holds an AFL/NFL record for most seasons leading the league in completion percentage.

Despite his impressive career, Dawson also holds an embarassing NFL record: a 7 fumbles in a game on November 15, 1964 in a 28-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers. In addition to his 7 fumbles, Dawson also threw 2 interceptions.
