Central Railroad of New Jersey was the first American railroad to have its employees wear uniforms, and in 1892, one of its locomotives set a world speed record of 105 mph. The railroad ran in New Jersey with connections across the Delaware River into Easton and Scranton. It bought several distressed properties of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company (which built and operated the canals along the Lehigh River), and operated in the Lehigh Valley to transport raw and finished materials for concrete production in the 1960's.
