Geocache Description:

THE ANESTHESIOLOGIST
IV ANESTHETICS
SUBDERMAL/TOPICAL
INHALED ANESTHESIA

Most people understand the concept of Anesthesia, but don't realize it is more than... 'Please count backwards from 100...'
There are mainly three types of individuals that can administer anesthetics... An Anesthesiologist, which is a doctor that completed the required courses in medical school, then chose to go into the field of anesthesiology.  The fact that they take the patient all the way to death's door and then bring them back is quite a responsibility.  Then there is the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), that is a Nurse that completed a Master's program to work in surgery in place of an Anesthesiologist.  They have to work under the Anesthesiologist, but this way more OR suites can be doing surgery with just one or two Anesthesiologists.  Finally, there are Registered Nurses (RN's), that can administer light sedation for small procedures like colonoscopies.  They give the sedation at the order of the surgeon in the room, and just enough to make the patient as comfortable as possible for the procedure.
IV Anesthetics are basically like the name implies, they are liquid meds that are administered through the intravenous line directly into your blood stream like Propofol (aka Milk of Amnesia).  They work very quickly, so there usually isn't enough time to count backwards. Besides, I have only seen that mainly done on TV.
There are also the liquid anesthetics that are injected under the skin like Lidocaine, Marcaine and Novacaine and some that are used topically like Benzocaine and cocaine.
Finally, there is Inhaled Anesthetics, that are administered usually, but not always, after IV Anesthetics are given.  They include Sevoflurane and Isoflurane and are used to maintain the necessary level of unconciousness for the procedure.  These are what come through the mask and/or endotracheal tube accompanied by oxygen during surgery,
This is just a little of what is involved in the world of Anesthetics, but I hope it gives you a little more understanding.
This series is based on something I am very passionate about.  Not only has it been the main source of my income for almost 2 decades, but it also has shown me the best and worst of the human race...

This is a little more than a quick P&G, but not much more.  It is located in the parking lot of the grocery store we frequent pretty much every two weeks.  There is close parking and can be a highly travelled area.   Congrats to krisNjoe for FTF!!!...
