Geocache Description:

The cache is placed near the Shalimar station of the Ocean City-Wright Fire Control District.

History:  The district was formed as a volunteer department in 1962, with the Shalimar station being built in 1976 and becoming fully manned in 1980. The department became a fully paid department in 1985.

The Shalimar station currently houses Truck 2, a 75 foot ladder equipped pumper and the Special Operations truck that is the Florida Region 1 provider for hazardous materials containment, rope rescue, and trench and heavy rescue.

The station is manned 24 hours by three firefighters, one of whom is also a paramedic. Monday through Friday from 0800-1600 the crew is supplemented by two Hazmat/rope/rescue technicians who operate Special Operations. Nights and weekends Special Operations is cross manned by Truck 2’s crew.

Please park in the small parking lot on the south side of the fire department (N30 26.793 W086 34.780) and not on the front ramp or rear driveway as the crews need these areas to operate.

If the firemen are there, they will give tours of the station and handouts for the kids. So if you are so inclined feel free to take a tour.

This cache is placed with the approval of Chief Billy Lord.

Congratulations to Eglin Youth Center on FTF!
