About "Dee Why":
The earliest reference to Dee Why itself has got to be in surveyor James Meehan’s notes: “Wednesday, 27th Sept, 1815 Dy Beach - Marked a Honey Suckle Tree near the Beach". From 1840 on the name of this area was “Deewhy”. In the 1950s, this word was split into two to make the modern Dee Why. Dee Why used to include the neighboring suburbs of Narraweena (Dee Why Heights) and Cromer (Dee Why West).
