Recently we were looking at some challenge caches that required you to spell out your caching name. In the requirements the CO of that cache suggested if you had a special character in your name it was just too bad. You must find a cache that started with the special character to qualify. It was hard enough for us to come up with an "x", so in the spirit of Christmas we have started a series to help those folks out.
Now get ready for your hike. This letterbox will take you on a nice stroll through the Ridge Point Community Church Natural Area. The area is made up of wetlands and native prairie. Take a few moments to gather some information off the signs along your way. You will need it when you get close to the final. The trails can be wet at times since some of this is located in a flood plain.
Begin by parking at the Adams St Landing. Head Southeast along the path under the road. This is the ONLY paved path you will be on for the rest of your hike. Once you emerge continue on the trail heading Southeast. On your right you can still see some scorched trees from the fires that claimed the barn and then later the homestead. Pass through the split rail fence. At the T turn right and follow the mowed path. Soon you will have a large pond on your left. After a bit you will have a small "fishing" pond on your right. Continue on until you come to an intersection. Turn left and head in an Easterly direction with the creek on your right. Cross it at the designated spot. Follow the path until it comes to a T. Turn to your left and continue down the trail until you cross the span.
You are getting close now. did you gather information on your way? Multiply the acres of wet lands times two, add to it the acres of native prairie. From the span follow the trail that number of paces. From here you should see a hollow Sycamore tree. Go to it. Remember how many groups worked together on this project? Multiply that number times five. Take that number of paces in the same direction you took from the trail to the Sycamore. Here you should find a pair Walnut trees leaning back at you. Go to the base of the Walnut tree, look to the North and you will see a group of three. Of the three one is done, reach inside it and you will find what you are seeking hanging there.
Once the cache is found, you can stamp your personal logbook with the stamp in the cache (please place back in cache when done) and stamp our logbook with your stamp. If you do not have a stamp, feel free to draw something for us to enjoy or sign your name.
Please replace stamp and logbook into their respective ziploc bags to prevent the ink on the stamp from ruining the logbook.
We hope you enjoyed our second letterbox.
