Geocache Description:

A quick drive-by above Medicine Lake, easy pull-out paved parking area.

At the parking area, on a typical sunny Alberta day, look to the horizon and the patch of blue. On the occasional overcast day the hole in the wall will appear like a snow patch. The only facilities here are a pair of picnic tables and a Parks Canada descriptive sign board.
At different times of the year you wil find an abundance of strawbdrry flowers, indian paintbrushes, western wood lilies (lilium philadelphicum) and mountain avens growing here. Please remember that we are not to pick flowers (or fruit) in our national parks.
According to Parks Canada information, the arch has been formed over the last 10,000 years as water has constantly seeped into the crevices in the mountain ridge. Typical of water/ice temperature fluctuations, the ice expanded as it formed and slowly shattered the rock around it. A part of the ridge has fallen away, leaving a harder band of limestone above, and forming a natural arch.
Be aware that this pull-off is not plowed in winter, and the snow may be deep.
According to the guidelines for geocaching in Canada's national parks, no trading items (including travelbugs and geocoins) are to be left in this cache. You might consider having your TBs & GCs merely "visit" the cache.
