Geocache Description:

Winner of the Outstanding Cache Hike Gold Hidey Award and Outstanding Multi-cache Silver Hidey Award 2014

"Thorvald Erikson was the Son of Erik the Red and brother of Leif Erikson. Leif Erikson led an expedition to North America. Archaeologists have uncovered a Norse community at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland that may be Erikson's settlement in the land he called Vinland. Thorvald Erikson made a trip to Vinland several years after Leif and stayed for two years in the houses Leif had built.

"This is a rich country we have found; there is plenty of fat around my belly. We've found a land of fine resources, though we'll hardly enjoy most of them." he wrote. He died in a skirmish with Aboriginal people somewhere north of the Vinland base.

Your task is to find Vinland where the soul of Thorvald dwells. In order to do it you will need to start a journey and travel first to Thorvald's brother Leif Erikson who allegedly was the first person to discover Vinland. He will give you coordinates for the secret map. "

Look at the monument at read the year when it was created ABCD
read also the year when Leif discovered America EFGH

The secret map is located at
N 37° FI.DJG
W 076° KL.MND

I = E+H, J = C+A
K = A+H, L = B-A
M = C*C-A, N = D-E

Once you find the map, read the runes of vikings and discover the coordinates of the harbor where you will set up the sails of your ship and follow the path of Thorvald. Read also the coordinates of the place of Thorvald's dreams. Note that there is NO physical container at the harbor. Proceed from the harbor to the final cache location.

The journey will lead you along the shoreline of Lake Maury on the five-mile Noland Trail. This trail has fourteen bridges, picnic areas, benches, handicap access, and mile markers. The trail has some slight elevation changes. Bicycling is NOT allowed on the trail, it is a walking/jogging trail only. The park is open sunrise to sunset.

If you attempt the journey with kids, you might want to use Parking 2 for the map and the path of Thorvald.

Congratulations to Great Scott! for FTF and his not a 5000th cache!
