Le barachois de Carleton/Carleton's barachois
Le barachois de Carleton se divisise en 3 entitées:
les flèches littorales, la lagune et les marais salés.
Le barachois est constitué de deux flèches de sable et de gravier aussi appelés bancs, ainsi que d'une lagune côtière. Contrairement à la plupart des barachois gaspésiens , celui-ci est peu alimenté par les sédiments provenant d'un cours d'eau. Il doit plutöt sont existance aux courants marins qui circulent le long du litoral. Ces derniers transportent les sédiments arrachés aux caps de Maria et les déposent plus loin, pour former le barachois. Les sédiments n'étant pas ancrées solidement , la structure des flèches tend à varier énormément. Toutefois le barachois de Carleton a une morphologie étonnamment stable depuis un siècle, outre la portion étrtoite du banc Larocque qui montre des signes importants de dégradation..

The Carleton barachois consists of two sandspits and a coastal lagoon. Marine currents scour Maria's cliffs, carrying sediments along the shoreline to create the Carleton barachois. It is unlike most barachois in the Gaspé region, which are shaped by sediments carried by rivers and streams. The sandspits formation tends to vary greatly, owning to the looseness of the sediments. However the Carleton barachois has shown an amazing stable morphology over the last century. The narrow part of the banc Larocque is the only section showing signs of degredation.
