Historic Donegal Town – The Pauper’s Graveyard
Just on the outskirts of Donegal Town (if you were driving to Ballybofey/Letterkenny) there is a signpost pointing to the Famine Graveyard. It is just down a little hill to the left as you leave the town.
Inscription on memorial stone reads:
IN LOVING MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED OF HUNGER AND DISEASE IN THE GREAT FAMINE OF 1845 - 1848 AND WERE BURIED IN THIS CEMETERY
It is not necessary to enter the cemetery to retrieve the cache. Cache is a small tab-lock box with a log sheet. You will need your own pen/pencil. Standard sized geocoins and smaller will fit but little room for most Travel Bugs. Please ensure to re-hide at the left end of the space when approached from outside the cemetery.
