Geocache Description:

Leeds was once served by Wellington Street Station and the unique two tier platform of Holbeck Low Level and Holbeck High Level stations. This wagon lift, a listed structure, hoisted whole wagons from Holbeck Low Level goods yard to the High Level platforms. Once had a lifting capacity of 20 tonnes

This steam-powered railway wagon hoist was one of a pair that stood on each side of the viaduct leading into the station, the other one was demolished by accident. They were built for the Lancashire and Yorkshire and the London and North Western Railways in the 1850s, the hoists remained in use until the 1950s.

We first saw this on a trip into Leeds and thought it deserved a cache nearby as it was such an interesting location. We have given this a higher difficulty rating due to muggles and CCTV cameras.

Congratulations to local lad 7 on a very quick FTF
