There is no longer a charge to enter the reserve, but car parking charges may apply. The official car park is free to RSPB members. Those arriving by ‘green transport’ (eg on foot or by bike) can complete this cache free of charge.
The route follows paths within the reserve, visiting bird hides along the way and returns along public footpaths. Please note that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE RESERVE.
Access to the seabank is via a set of steps; as such, it is not suitable for wheelchair/buggies users. There are inquisitive cows grazing the seabanks from April to October. Once on the seabank follow your GPS until you reach the slope/steps back down to the path surrounding the wet grassland. From here the walk follows the tarmac road, please be aware of the possibility of vehicles driving along here, back to the visitor centre where you can work out your final co-ords. Toilets are available in the visitor centre during opening hours. The final cache is located a short stroll from the visitor centre and can be accessed just off the main path. Please note this is the ONLY SUITABLE TIME to divert from the paths. You are looking for a large ammo-tin cache, which contains lots of goodies, logbook and pen. Please feel free to comment about the site and your multicache experience in the logbook.
THE WHOLE ROUTE FOLLOWS PATHS THAT MUST BE ADHERED TO. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU NEED TO CLIMB OVER ANY LOCKED GATES OR FENCES.
As you walk the route, you will have the opportunity to enjoy one of Lincolnshire’s finest wild places. Sights to enjoy include thousands of wading birds and wildfowl on the reedbed and fresh water scrapes during the winter months and watch out for birds of prey such as peregrines, hen harriers and short eared owls flying over the saltmarsh. In the summer, listen out for singing skylarks and displaying lapwings. Avocets also nest here.
In order to find the Final Co-ordinates, you will need to complete all 13 stages. The information gleaned will give you the numbers required for the sums to work out for the NORTHING and EASTING Co-ordinates.
Final Co-ordinates - N 52.AA.BCD E 000.00.EFG
AA = All stage answers totalled, minus the number of stages, minus 3.
B = Stage 13 minus stage 9 minus stage 4
C = Stage 7 answer
D = Stage 3 + stage 6
E = (Stage 10 + stage 11) minus stage 8
F = Stage 2 minus stage 5
G = Stage 4 plus stage 8
We hope you find the walk, site and challenge enjoyable! Good Luck!
Well done Daz and Mel for the FTF!!
