Located in Grand River Park in Lansing is a cache hidden at a hilltop no longer used. Cache is available during park hours only.
A short hike from the parking waypoint will take you to the cache. There is a trail that will take you up the hill and close to the summit. From there you will need to navigate under or over a handrail to get to the summit plateau. Minor bushwacking required.
I've driven by this hill a thousand times and often wondered what was up there, and finally decided to find out. To my surprise I found a handrail around the top of the summit no longer visible from below. It appears this place may have been used as a scenic overlook or possibly a sledding hill. Nature has reclaimed this place and the view of the river is now obscured from the overgrown plateau.
My Dad tells me that this part of the river was once used for boat races back when he was a kid. I would be interested in hearing what the summit was used for if anyone knows.
My Son got permission from his Mom to use a small round tupperware containter for a geocache. He did a great job on the camo, and put a couple of small items in there for trade. There is not much room for more. Please bring your own pen. I took some trash out with me when planting this cache. Congratulations to scoutersteve on the FTF!!!
