Gyoki opened Zenpukuji temple, and Ninsai Shonin rebuilt it. Statue of Shotokutaishi at this temple that was made in the Kamakura Period, is registered as the important cultural properties of Japan. Also the temple has the large kettle for the tea ceremony that is called “Amidado kettle”. Hideyoshi was very impressed and amused at the head shape of the Buddhist monk in Amidado.
He ordered Rikyu to make a kettle in the image of the head shape. Tenkaichi Yojiro, was the craftsman of kettles, made a kettle for Rikyu. So, the kettle had been called as “Amidado kettle”. The tea party is held every April after Sakura festival there. Please bring your pen.
