Guilford has a beautiful Shoreline, most of which is privately
owned, but there are still a few places where you can enjoy the
view of long Island Sound. The Town marina is a popular place. With
plenty of parking many people use this as a starting point for a
stroll down Whitfield street to the green. It’s also popular for
fishing, or you can just sit on one of the many benches provided
and enjoy the view. Nearby, and within walking distance, is the
Town Beach. Jacob’s Beach has a large playground and a small sandy
beach with a lifeguard on duty in the summer months. In the Summer
you will need a beach pas (available at the rec. center) or you may
purchase a pass for the day. Almost across from Jacobs Beach is the
town owned Chittenden Park with soccer fields and picnic benches
and a view to Chaffinch Island. There's room for parking here and
it's free. I discovered this small beach behind the soccer fields.
The beach is very secluded
and not suited for swimming, but there's a short path to the beach behind the large rock at the end of the field. While it may indeed be muddy and sometimes even swamped at very high tide, there's absolutely no bushwhacking involved. It is a great place to enjoy the view
of the sound and to meditate. The cache is a micro, so please bring
your own pen. Beware of poison ivy near the cache. You should be
able to reach the cache without touching the p.i.
Congratulations to RGSMD on
