Geocache Description:

Seven Hundred NinetyFirst in the
Famous People (FP) Series -
Andy Warhol
A series caches dedicated to those who have enjoyed 15 seconds of fame.
This is the BONUS Cache for the 15 Seconds of Fame Series. To find this cache, you will need to find the cache in the series that houses the coordinates to this cache.

15 minutes of fame is short-lived media publicity or celebrity of an individual or phenomenon. The expression was coined by Andy Warhol, who said in 1968 that "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." The phenomenon is often used in reference to figures in the entertainment industry or other areas of popular culture, such as reality TV and YouTube. It is believed that the statement was an adaptation of a theory of Marshall McLuhan, explaining the differences of media, where TV differs much from other media using contestants.

John Langer suggests that 15 minutes of fame is an enduring concept because it permits everyday activities to become "great effects." Tabloid journalism and the paparazzi have accelerated this trend, turning what may have before been isolated coverage into continuing media coverage even after the initial reason for media interest has passed.

A more recent adaptation of Warhol's quip, possibly prompted by the rise of online social networking, blogging, and similar online phenomena, is the claim that "In the future, everyone will be famous to fifteen people" or, in some renditions, "On the Web, everyone will be famous to fifteen people".

For this series of 11 total caches, we prefer the saying "15 Seconds of Fame" because most of the people chronicled in this series don't belong on the list for more than that.

The first 20 finders (extended to the first 22) of this bonus cache have the opportunity to take a special piece of swag and bring it to our Annual Winter Breakfast Event (currently scheduled for February 23, 2013) co-hosted by TeamOxford and me, for a chance at a very special prize. Details can be found inside the cache.

The listed coordinates are the recommended parking coordinates for the entire series. It is also recommended that the caches be found in their numerical FP order 781-791.

All caches in this series are located on City Of Mesquite property. Highly recommend using the parking coordinates and doing the caches in numerical order. There are 10 caches total plus 1 bonus cache. The coordinates to the bonus cache are posted in only 1 of the caches so check the lids carefully. Round trip hike could be a short as 2.5 miles and there are no trails to speak of. Some ATV trails may come in handy occasionally, but best bet is to pretty much follow the little red arrow between caches. Download the track map to follow the route that was used to place the series.
