Dirt Road Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OBXbiker: Unable to find anything at the cache location. Appears tree trimming may have taken the container out. I'm going to take my wife's advice here and archive this one and create a new hide close by.

Geocache Description:

Small container along Old Nags Head Woods Road within Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve. No bushwhacking required so leave your machete, hatchet, axe and brush hog home. Parking coordinates will take you to the Visitors Center where guests are asked to sign Guest Registry .BYOP

This is a daylight only hunt for a small camouflaged container hidden about five feet off the ground on the east side of a dirt road in Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve. You should be able to retrieve it without leaving the road more than a few feet. Even if you must tramp around in the woods, there is no reason to disturb any trees or bushes. Permission granted for this placement in compliance with Nags Head Wood guidelines. BYOP.

The dirt/sandy road should be an easy stroll for most everyone that will take you past a few other caches along the way. A great way to enjoy nature close up. Many people walk this road in good weather and our son used to train here with the school track team many years ago. There is a very popular 5k run here in the Preserve every year. You could drive the road which is used frequently by locals and visitors alike. Should you decide to drive it there is a wide spot in the road to pull over near the cache but not right at it.

The 1,092-acre Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve is a maritime forest located at the end of Ocean Acres Drive in Kill Devil Hills. Please refrain from an bushwhacking. The area was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974. The Preserve is open daily from dawn to dusk every day. In addition to the road there are several hiking trails open for foot traffic only. Be aware that the trees often cause considerable bounce. Knowing the quote credited to American author Horace Greeley concerning America's expansion are most likely to be on the correct side of the road. Cache is hidden right by the trail so no need to wander about creating any geo-trails. However, there are no guarantees as to which side of the road your GPSr will want you to look. Coords were right on for us but if you're having trouble locating this one you might want to check the other side.

Parking coordinates will take you to the Visitors Center where guests are asked to sign in.

FTF credit goes to OBXed.
