[ENG] This cache is dedicated to Gottfried von Banfield (1890-1986), and is located at the beginning of the Rilke Path, overlooking the Sistiana bay.
[ITA] Goffredo de Banfield è stato un aviatore austro-ungarico naturalizzato italiano. Fu il più vittorioso pilota della K.u.K. Kriegsmarine nel corso della prima guerra mondiale, conosciuto con il soprannome di "Aquila di Trieste" ed ultima persona ad essere decorata con l'Ordine militare di Maria Teresa.
Dopo la guerra, nel 1926 divenne cittadino italiano diventando direttore di un'impresa di trasporti e recuperi marittimi.
[ENG] Gottfried von Banfield was an Austro-Hungarian aviator naturalized Italian. He was the most successful pilot of the K.u.K. Kriegsmarine during World War I, known by the nickname of "Eagle of Trieste" and the last person to be decorated with the Military Order of Maria Theresa.
After the war, in 1926 he took the Italian citizenship becoming the director of a transportation and retrieval company.
