For over four generations this spot has offered a calm and healthful atmosphere for the thousands of patient's, residents and employees of the Cook County Hospital. The grounds served not only as hospital but also poor farm, tuberculosis sanatorium, mental hospital and potters field for the poor and indigent in Cook County. At one time it was a national model of the best care available

Access to this preserve is through a gate occupied by Cook County Police, it is open between sunrise and sunset. You will be required to tell the officer at the gate that you want to explore The Heritage Preserve.  This is the only legal entrance to the parking for the preserve. The preserve is patrolled by Cook County Health Center Police.  The entire preserve is enclosed by a 8 ft BW fence so please dont try other entry points by climbing over the fence. If you do, will have the LEO encounter you deserve.
