Geocache Description:

Devils Throne is a rocky outcrop/cliffs giving superb views over Mount Montagu, Huon Valley, Mountain River, and Sleeping Beauty etc. The day I placed the cache 11/12/12, there was a sea of yellow and white flowers in close proximity to the cache. Waratahs were flowering, and a sea breeze was trying to push mist through the valley between Mount Montagu and Devils Throne.

Located in The Wellington Park which offers so many great natural features and opportunities for rewarding day walks in close proximity to Hobart. Devils Throne is about a 10km 5-6hr return walk(Including a lunch stop and a bit of time to look around) from the Big Bend car park on Mount Wellington. The walk map above shows the exact route I took, the track was pretty good and fairly easy to follow by noting previous walker use and markers(tape/cairns). I recommend wearing gaiters or trousers and checking the weather before doing this walk. The first photo below shows the outcrop the cache has been placed on, the location provides a excellent lookout over the area. The cache is placed away from the edge and can easily and safely be retrieved. Please view the cache hint photos attached to help finding it as there are a lot of potential hides in the area. This was a really enjoyable walk, no major long steep accents/descents, any mud on the track was easily avoided, and with a bit of care the track was easily followed.

I have logged the route I took on my gps(gpx file) if you would like it please email me. Though if you use the major junction gps marks listed on the map above you should hopefully have no problem finding the junctions to the Devils Throne loop off the main track. It is quite easy to walk straight past the cairns marking the track junctions. I walked past junction 1 and decided to start the loop from junction 3.

The cache container is of a good size and contains some nice trades/rewards at time of placement including a couple of MakkyBrown pathtags, an unactivated geocoin, and a few Tassie Devil fishing lures(take care as they have sharp treble hooks). The cache is also the home cache for our Tasmanian Devil travel bug, who is keen to leave his home on Devils Throne to explorer the world.

Please remember this walk is at roughly 1000meters in altitude and weather conditions can change rapidly, please take care and prepare well. I hope you enjoy this walk/cache.
