Down In The Boondocks Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Slow Puncture (LJCC): Okay, archive time, regrettably :(

This (former) cache apparently resides next to the northside's biggest grinch.

Lyno & Arken's post in May 2014 was an alert to today's events, but fng_affl's post today seals the deal. This cache is ARCHIVED.

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE SITE - THE NEARBY PROPERTY OWNER IS A FEW WHEAT BAGS SHORT OF A SILO, by the sounds of it...

Quoted from fng_affl's note to us:

"Half way back to the car, I saw a man standing next to my car. Not exactly what I was expecting. When I got there, he asked me what I was doing on his property. I told him it was my understanding that it was a road, and council land. He informed me that he has purchased it and it is now private land. I apologised to him and stated that I simply did not know that.

He informed me that people have been in that area, shooting Koalas. He has taken to shooting at lights and wheels on cars. This may be more fiction that fact, but a cacher going in at night with a head lamp could be in a dangerous situation. Let alone the fact that it is now private land.

I just felt that I should pass on this information, as this guy was not happy that I was there, and I would hate to have him irate at the next cacher that goes in."

REPEAT: PLEASE DO NOT GO AFTER THIS CACHE - WE DO NOT WANT ANYTHING BAD TO HAPPEN

Geocache Description:

This cache offers you a view of Lake Kurwongbah that few would ever have seen. At the time of cache publish the lake is full, so the view is great.

The lyrics of the Billie Joe Royal/Joe South song that this cache is named after are (in part):

"Down in the boondocks, down in the boondocks
People put me down 'cause that's the side of town I was born in"

No need for put downs here though. Turning off Narangba Rd into Cooper Rd, you are soon on dirt. At the top of a hill you will arrive at what first looks like the end of the road. Past the sign, the road 'degenerates' into more of a track. This is still Cooper Rd. Do not be concerned, there is a turning area at the end.

NOTE: Team LJCC placed this cache in dry weather using an ordinary family car. So, dry weather is not a problem. We would think it would also be accessible during wet conditions, however, this is a decision you need to make on a case-by case basis.

NOTE: I really would not recommend doing this cache at night.

The cache is located quite close to the end of the road. Take the time while you are here and at the top of the hill to absorb the view of Lake Kurwongbah.

As always, a FTF Certificate awaits the first intrepid explorer. And that explorer was membsec, congratulations!
