Just when you thought all the space for geocaches in Point Defiance was occupied, along comes this guy. Among other nicknames, locals often call Point Defiance Park "The Five" after Five Mile Drive, the road that takes you along the five mile perimeter of the park. You will have to use Five Mile drive to get to this cache.
This cache is the biggest in Tacoma and is positioned under something rather big as well. It is located in Point Defiance Park, second biggest city park in the United States (only to Central Park in New York City). I can't enforce the size of trading items but if you want to get rid of some bigger items that can't fit in most caches (books, CDs, even stuffed animals), here is your opportunity to do so. With all of this in mind, if you like to go big, this cache is certainly for you.
Point Defiance is known for its GPS reception problems, so I'll provide directions to the cache area. From the parking lot, use the crosswalk and take the trail that leads south then follow the trail that goes off to the right. Approach the cache from the north/west side from the trail. This is most definitely a kid friendly cache even though about 20 feet of bushwhacking is needed to get to it. MAKE SURE the cache has some cover overhead when you leave it. Don't leave this guy exposed! I have alternate coordinates taken with only 40 feet of accuracy: N 47° 18.946 W 122° 32.197. The regular coordinates posted are within 20 feet accuracy.
