Welcome to surfer’s paradise, Marias Beach was home to the 1968 World Surfing Championship.Initially the Championship started out over at Domes beach, near the BONUS plant but then had to be moved because of bad surf conditions. The beach is named after Maria, a sweet old woman who lived in a beach house there.Bienvenido al paraíso de los surfistas, Marías Beach fue el lugar del Campeonato Mundial de surf del 1968. Inicialmente comenzó el Campeonato sobre en la playa de Domes, cerca la planta BONUS pero luego tuvo que ser trasladado debido a las malas condiciones de surf. La playa se llama Maria's por una senora que vivia en una casita de playa.

The beautiful island you see out in the distance is The Desecheo National Wildlife Refuge, part of the Caribbean Islands National Wildlife Refuge Complex, is a small, uninhabited island located approximately 13 miles west of Puerto Rico. The refuge was established in 1976 to protect seabird colonies.
El Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre de Desecheo forma parte del Complejo de Sistema de Refugios Nacionales de Vida Silvestre del Caribe. Esta pequeña isla está inhabitada y se encuentra aproximadamente a 13 millas del oeste de Puerto Rico. La isla se fundó como un Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre en 1976 para la protección de las colonias de aves marinas.
