Geocache Description:

A quick p&g in the historical area of Dungarvan.

Limerick is not the only place in Ireland to boast a King Johns Castle, nor is Limerick the only place in Ireland to have a similarly named cache. King Johns Castle, or as its known locally as Dungarvan Castle is located at the point where the Colligan River meets Dungarvan Bay, and close to the ruin of the Church of St Garbhan, who founded the settlement of Dungarvan. The castle consists of a polygonal shell keep with an enclosing curtain wall, a corner tower and a gate tower. The shell keep is the earliest structure, dating from the 12th century. Shell keeps are common in England, but rare in Ireland. Inside the curtain wall is a two storey military barracks, which dates from the first half of the 18th century. The barracks is now restored and houses an informative exhibition on the history of the castle. The Castle is now maintained by the Office of Public Works. The cache is located outside the barracks and castle walls. You are looking for a bison tube which contains only a logbook. Please note where you find it, and replace back to the position you found it in. Muggle alert is moderate and discretion is advised when looking for the cache.
