The Haunted Lock Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

haggaeus: Stopped by to check the status. Found the logbook tied to the tree and the container with few swag items laying nearby.
I had a replacement cache with me, but after the shrub cutting last year there doesn't seem to be any good spot for a cache of this size. Archiving this one.

Geocache Description:

Easy cache at 13th lock of Royal Canal.

As the IWAI Royal Canal Guide reads: 13th lock, Deey Bridge, had the reputation among the old Royal Canal boatmen of being haunted and they would never moor there for the night.

Some legends say that a canal boat sinked here and all passengers have drowned. There is a poem by Arthur Griffith about the ghosts at 13th lock, and the music group The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock used it as an inspiration for their name.

You can get to the cache site by Dublin Bus no. 66 which stops less than 100m from the lock. There is a street parking available between the main road and the lock as well. Of course you can take a longer stroll along the canal from Maynooth to Leixlip.

The cache is a 0.675 L&L clone container in a black bag. Enjoy!
