Long before the Texas Roadhouse or the Longhorn, if you wanted a great steak in Elizabethtown you would go to the Kentucky Ribeye. KY Ribeye was part of a small chain based out of Bowling Green Kentucky. They had Restaurants in Murfreesboro, TN., Bowling Green KY, Danville, KY. and Owensboro, KY. The chain started sometime around 1971 and changed their name to the Brierpatch in the early eighties to reflect other offerings.
The Restaurant here in Elizabethtown sat back off the road on a small crest of a hill and featured a rustic exterior . The interior had no windows and featured a large salad bar and sizzling skillets that your steak was brought out on. My first job in high school was here, starting out as a busboy then into meat cutting before moving on.
This Restaurant was always in competition with the Stone Hearth across the street and being upscale suffered without being able to offer alcohol to Louisville establishments. It finally shut down in the late 80s and for a few years was a Chinese Restaurant. Part of the parking lot was sold for a Pizza Hut which was also short lived. After the place sat empty for a few years Walgreens torn it and the Pizza Hut down to make room for what you see today.
The Brierpatch in Owensboro is still open.
One of the feature I remember was the waiter or waitress cutting your steak tableside, Do you Remember?
