Memorial Park is another one of my hangouts in the days as a young adult (30 something). Basketball, volleyball, tennis, and (later) baseball with my sons & nephew was on the menu. However, was never brave enough to show my face in the skatepark. The Police Activities League (PAL) provide a safe place for the youngsters to hang out when not in school.
There's a fitness center in the gym for real cheap, if you're a resident of Santa Monica.
