Micro cache container along the Danvers Rail Trail (Note: Cache is ABOVE Rt 114 (Andover Street)
This cache is located along the Danvers Rail Trail. In 1849 the Essex Railroad came to Danvers, this lasted until 1860 when the Boston and Maine Railroad assumed formal lease of the line. By 1899, there were nine stations, and 21 passenger trains ran daily between Danvers and Boston under the name “Newburyport Railroad". Express trains linked Danvers to Boston in about half an hour. Trains also carried various shipments including wood, coal, hay, and grain into Danvers, and carried away leather goods, shoes and bricks to distant markets. Passenger service was provided to Topsfield until 1950, when it was cut back to Danvers. A single daily round trip was operated until 1959 and the line was taken out of service in 1977. In 2008 Danvers leased the tracks and work began.. Today this is a bike trail made possible by people who cared enough and worked heard enough to make the wonderful bikeway you see now.
Note: PLEASE PLACE THE CACHE BACK WHERE AND HOW YOU FOUND IT SO THAT IT CAN NOT BE SEEN, alot of people use the trail - Thanks.
Congrats Geo-Knot for FTF
