Geocache Description:

On May 2, 1863, at 5:15 p.m., "Stonewall" Jackson's 30,000 veterans crashed into Howard's 9,000 mostly inexperienced troops. Caught by surprise, Devens division quickly broke. Howard tried desperately to rally Schurz's division, but it too quickly broke. A third line of Colonel Alolphus Buschbeck held briefly before it collapsed. Jackson had routed Howard's Corps opening the way for the Confederates to destroy Hooker's army. This battle commenced in this area, just over the rise.

This cache is placed outside of the battlefield's protected area, alongside the main route. Parking is available near the cache, but the terrain rating is based on the most difficult path a cacher may take.

Please replace precisely as found or the value of the cache may be diminished.

Do try to stop by the Chancellorville's Visitor's Center if you get a chance.
