Geocache Description:

Cache is located just off the Old Waterbury Turnpike in Winchester, Ct. For those of you who remember, the "Where the bison roam" series once was located along this road. Cache is a medium sized lock-n-lock.

Historically, this section of dirt road is the only remaining portion of the original toll road that once connected New Haven to Albany during the early 1800's. For those of you who remember, this is where the  "Where the bison roam" series once was.
There is a simple blue sign on the Winchester center end of the road, stating the original toll road fees for horse carts, sleighs and carriages, marks the entrance. The dirt road, has homes on either side, however about a quarter of a mile in, the homes disappear, the woods thicken and the road conditions worsen (greatly!) as you are met with a sign that reads "No Winter Maintenance".  This is the point at which a four-wheel drive vehicle might prove to be very useful. The Danbury Quarter Cemetery is also located here. Also known as "Green Lady Cemetery", this Revolutionary War cemetery is best known in local legend for being haunted by the ghost of Mary Crocker. Look for "the green lady haunted cemetary cache" (GZ15R5V) while you are out here.
