Geocache Description:

Disappearing Tarn is located in The Wellington Park, in close proximity to The Potato Fields on the Milles Track heading from the Springs to Wellington Falls.

Unfortunately it was empty today 16/12/12 :( as per picture below.

Note: Cache may have been washed away by recent flooding or missing.
If you don't find the container upload a picture and log as found.

Disappearing Tarn is famous for it's crystal clear blue coloured water. There are some amazing photos of it, including a photo in Peter Dombroski's book 'On The Mountain'. I'm really keen on seeing it full of water so thought a GeoCache would be a great way to keep tabs on it so to speak. From reading, it only fills after ALOT of rain(many days of heavy rain), probably snow melt aswell. I'll be watching the weather and post a note if I return there and find it full.

The best way to get there would be from the Springs following the Milles Track, about a 1 1/2 hours walk each way. The Tarn is only a short distance from the track. The cache container contains a log and pencil. I recommend the Wellington Park Recreational Map available from Service Tasmania as it shows the current walking tracks on the mountain.
