Geocache Description:

Il Castello di Buccione, del quale è visibile in lontananza l'omonima torre, sorge su di un colle posto all'estremità sud del lago d'Orta, al confine tra i comuni di Gozzano ed Orta San Giulio. Sorto intorno al XII secolo ad opera dei conti "Da Castello", aveva funzioni di avvistamento e difesa.
Dell'antico castello rimangono bene in vista e conservate le mura del recinto superiore, quello posto a difesa della torre, Sono invece visibili solo per alcuni tratti le mura del recinto inferiore, un'area un tempo "...capace di cinquecento uomini in ordinanza...".
E' in buono stato di conservazione la torre che svetta fiera con i suoi oltre 23 metri di altezza e che con la sua campana avvisava gli abitanti della zona in caso di pericolo. Ora il recinto del castello è stato messo in sicurezza ed è stato ricreato il camminamento delle guardie sul fronte del recinto superiore.
E' consentito accedere all'interno delle mura del castello attraverso il cancello principale e visitare liberamente l'area all'esterno della torre.
Solo un paio di volte l'anno vengono organizzate delle visite guidate ed è possibile raggiungere la sommità della torre dalla quale si può gustare uno dei più bei panorami sul lago d'Orta e sulla pianura fino a vedere, nelle giornate limpide, la basilica di Novara.

Il castello è raggiungibile posteggiando l'auto al punto PK (Parcheggio) dal quale inizia il sentiero in salita che porta alla meta. Si tratta di un comodo sterrato da percorrere a piedi, per una lunghezza di circa 500 metri ed un dislivello di 80 metri. Viene indicato come percorribile in 10 minuti, 15 con la giusta calma per ammirare il paesaggio.
Il cache è una provetta stagna nascosta all'esterno della cinta muraria.

ATTENZIONE:

Infilare le mani tra muri in sasso, in special modo nel periodo estivo, può riservare sgradite sorprese. Prima di rovistare alla ricerca del cache accertatevi sempre che non vi siano ospiti indesiderati.

Buccione castle, which is visible in the distance the tower with the same name, is situated on a hill placed at the southern end of Orta Lake, at the border between the municipalities of Gozzano and Orta San Giulio. It was built around the twelfth century by "Da Castello" count, for warning and defense pourposies. Of the ancient castle remain in sight and keep the walls of the enclosure top, originaly built to defend the tower. Are instead only visible in some parts the walls of the enclosure bottom, an area once "... capable of five hundred men in order ... ". Still in good condition the tower that stands proud with its more than 23 meters high and with its bell warned the inhabitants of the area in case of danger. Now the fence of the castle was secured and has been recreated the guards front walkway on top of the fence. Is allowed to enter the walls of the castle through the main gate and to visit the area outside of the tower. Only a couple of times in the year there are guided tours and you can reach the top of the tower from which you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views on Orta Lake and on the plain to see, on a clear day, the Novara main church.
The castle can be reached parking the car at the point PK (Parking), from which begins the uphill path to goal. It is a convenient dirt road to walk for a length of about 500 meters and a difference of about 80 meters. It is indicated to be covered in 10 minutes, 15 with the right calm to admire the landscape. Cache is a waterproof tube hidden outside the walls.

WARNING:
Putting your hands between stone walls, especially in the summer, may hold unpleasant surprises. Before digging in search of the cache always make sure that there are no unwanted guests.
